On Being: The Manuscript Study
Sunday, April 27 • 9:00 AM-10:30 AM
"On Being" will begin the first Sunday of Eastertide and continue to Pentecost. The 7 week manuscript study is of the seven 'I am' discourses in the gospel of John which explores the character of Christ. *P.S. Only 1 of the 'I am" discourses was covered in last years Beloved Disciples group.
Join Compassion & Justice in exploring the character of Christ as we grow in awareness of our own belovedness! This is a fun intergenerational group, inviting all into transformative immersion into the person of Christ. We meet consecutively in Eastertide to Pentecost.
Taco Talks
Wednesday, April 30 • 7:00 PM-8:30 PM
Join Iheoma and Grace on April 30 for Taco Talks, a space for open and meaningful conversation about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Over tacos and conversation, we’ll explore what DEI means in our communities, workplaces, and daily lives. Our goal isn’t to persuade or debate—it’s to listen, learn, and reflect on why it matters.
Bring a friend, your questions, and an open heart as we create space for dialogue that deepens understanding.

Middle Talk
Middle Talk fulfills the compassion & justice objective to equip the community to engage thoughtfully and gracefully the conversations of our day with theological depth and understanding. Middle talk is a facilitated sharing dialogue for small to medium/large groups of people on one of the following topics: Race & Ethnicity, politics, life in silicon valley, wealth, gender and sexuality, housing. We are currently looking for two facilitators to be able to offer each small group at the River the opportunity to have at least 1 facilitated conversation a year. Talk with Iheoma for more information.
Sustainability Cohort
A majority of Compassion & Justice initiatives are outward focused, this one is inward focused, helping the River practice creation care and increased ecological sustainability. Members of the cohort will ideate and implement ways that the River Church and its programs can be ecologically sustainable. Talk with Iheoma for more information.
